In February 2001, I moved to Australia to spend a year studying at the University of Western Sydney.
Having been working for three years, it was a very difficult decision to uproot my life and go back to being a student. There was a lot of work to be done - I had to quit my job, sell my car, arrange for financing, throw out a large portion of my treasured junk collection, and I had to leave my girlfriend of two years.
As the weeks leading up to my departure swept by, I became increasingly nervous. I'd never been overseas before. I'd never lived on my own before. I'd never been away from the safety-net of my family before. But, alas, things turned out great, and it was all definitely worth it.
